Antibacterial Effects of Boric Acid Against Aquatic Pathogens

نویسندگان

چکیده

Boron is a bioactive trace element generally found in rock, soil, water and air. It an essential micronutrient for plants besides having beneficial effects on biological functions of human animal health. Boric acid has antibacterial properties. Thus, the aim this study was to evaluate possible bactericidal bacteriostatic boric aquatic pathogens: Aeromonas veronii, Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae, Vibrio anguillarum, vulnificus, harveyi, rotiferianus, tubiashii, parahaemolyticus, furnissii, fluvialis. The inhibitory properties were detected by agar well diffusion, minimum concentration (MIC), (MBC) methods. results showed that species resistant different concentrations acid. However, effect against veronii at 3.09 1.54 mg/ml zone diameters measured as 19.4 ± 0.5, 15.92 0.6 mm, respectively. MIC MBC be effective mg/ml. These suggested might serve potential antimicrobial agent aquaculture.

Resveratrol—Potential Antibacterial Agent against Foodborne Pathogens

Bacterial foodborne pathogens are a significant health burden and the recent emergence of pathogenic resistant strains due to the excessive use of antibiotics makes it more difficult to effectively treat infections as a result of contaminated food. Awareness of this impending health crisis has spurred the search for alternative antimicrobials with natural plant antimicrobials being among the mo...

The Antibacterial Activity of Acetic Acid against Biofilm-Producing Pathogens of Relevance to Burns Patients

INTRODUCTION Localised infections, and burn wound sepsis are key concerns in the treatment of burns patients, and prevention of colonisation largely relies on biocides. Acetic acid has been shown to have good antibacterial activity against various planktonic organisms, however data is limited on efficacy, and few studies have been performed on biofilms. OBJECTIVES We sought to investigate the...

Screening of antibacterial activity of lactic acid bacteria isolated from fermented vegetables against food borne pathogens

This study aims to screen the antibacterial activity of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from home-made fermented vegetables against common food borne pathogens. The antagonistic properties of these isolates against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Yersinia enterocolitica and Bacillus cereus were examined using agar well diffusion method. Four LAB namely MF6, MF10, MF13, and MF15 ide...

Antibacterial activities of lactic acid bacteria isolated from cow faeces against potential enteric pathogens.

BACKGROUND The addition of sub therapeutic doses of antibiotics to cattle feed for growth promotion is a contributory factor to antibiotic resistance, thus an alternative to antibiotics is needed in animal feed additives. OBJECTIVE To determine the antimicrobial activity of cow's intestinal Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) against enteric commensals. METHOD Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species (s...

Study of the Antibacterial Efficacy of Bainiku-Ekisu against Pathogens

The research was undertaken to determine the bacteriostatic effects of the concentrate of Japanese apricot juice (bainiku-ekisu), which is a popular health food in Taiwan and Japan, on Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The results show that E. faecalis, S. aureus, and E. coli could be killed or inhibited by bainiku-ekisu at conc...
